Final FN Kitchen Day Takes the Cake

Yesterday (Tuesday), was the final day cooking away for the episodes we begin taping next week. When I got to the kitchens I found we'd be in a different section of the kitchens because Throwdown with Bobby Flay was shooting. They were getting the portion of the show where he's in the kitchens working on what recipe he'll use against the unsuspecting guest. It was my first time meeting him and as with the rest, he was nice and very welcoming. After we meet and chatted a bit we both got to work in our separate spaces. His production company handled the work for Dear FN and many of the people I met on that job were there as well, a neat little treat.

After we got settled in we began to cook the final few episodes. First on our minds was my grandma's recipe I'd called for the day before. This is the cake I got on birthdays and special visits when growing up. It was soooo good then and I am very proud of myself because one teeny bite took me right back. Can't wait to share it with you. All I did was change the presentation. Here's the process ... details in a show to come.

Mix it up ...

Spread it, cook it, cool it ... ask people (in this case Santos) to throw up the peace sign next to it :-)...

Cut it, layer it with love, sprainkle it baby, slice it, share it with people you work with...

Truly can't wait to share it with you. It is so easy and the taste is classic. Everyone loved it and I must say I've never made frosting the way my grandma described, so it may be new to you as well. I love new stuff. I also made some fried carbohydrates and finished them off in glaze and a sugar mixture, yummy!! Here they go bobbin' away while grandma's cake look's on...

And good news! Starting this week Food Network kitchens is composting, so until the right containers come in I deposited my stuff in this metal bowl. Take a look at the stuff soon to be back in the ground...

Tomorrow (Thursday), I have a voice over for How'd That Get On My Plate? and a few other things here and there. If I don't check in, have a great day!!!

Hey! Sprainkle... LOL Me and my people are watching that movie tomorrow night. I hope you know what movie I'm talking about.

Is that red velvet? Because red velvet is my favorite. It's the 1st cake I made right after culinary school. The night I graduated (lol) I made it. The layers were all uneven, it was so embarrassing LOL.

I hope you're having a good day, too, busy lady!

Hey Sunny!

I thought your billboards weren't up anymore, but I was in the city today with Kabrina for an audition on West 15th street & 9th Ave., and there it was! Kabrina was like "Look! Sunny!"...lol.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that with you...lol!

Keep working hard...it'll continue to pay off girl!!

Oh! The movie is The Wash. With Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre? I watched it last night with my friends. One of the girls in the movie does this little dance and she's like, "My name is Sprainkle..." Maybe it's on You Tube somewhere...

Simplicity, I actually just wrapped taping and we shot that show today! So far it feels like a show that will air around the same time as the big season ending nfl game ... So, 2009 for sure, but trust me, the recipe is failproof ... Failproof I tell ya! Hope u give it a try when it airs ...grandma's know how to cook! Glad mine passed on her secret!
