BTW and Didja Know ...

BTW
Don't forget to catch my guest appearance on Movie and a Makeover on TBS!
It's a show within a movie! Enjoy Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion while during the commercial breaks, Anne Burrell and I help Jen and her friend Jamie plan a girls-only reunion of their own! We bring the food tips and recipes then leave the ladies up to the rest. The party was a hit! It airs tomorrow morning at ..... 1040AM est on TBS. Check here for a synopsis about the movie and airtime. Didja miss my blog post about our trip down to south to tape this? Check Movie, Makeover & Mangia, for the details. Do what I do most weekends, stay in bed as long as possible and watch Saturday morning TV. Or, if you are like me and have plenty of house chores leftover from being lazy this past weekend, this is a great way to get up early, do some cleaning and watch TV at the same time. Speaking of same time, a brand new episode of Cooking for Real: North of the Border airs tomorrow as well. There may be some overlap, but like Digital Underground said ... "dowhatchalike". I just hope you enjoy your Saturday in a foodie way! Movie and a Makeover was fun, hope you like it. The recipes are up on the TBS website.

and Didja Know ....

I'm a healthy cook? Yup! That's sometimes and if you have diabetes. Recently, Diabetes Focus Magazine featured my recipe for Curry Pork Burgers with Spicy Ketchup along with the recipes of other Food Network hosts with diabetic-friendly recipes. Here's the article sourced by a sister site. There are nutritional breakdowns and all, pretty neat! These burgers are a great alternative to the typical grill scene, so if you are in need of a change, give em a try! Know a diabetic? Pass it on! They are easy to make because everything is easy to find at the grocery store, and c'mon ... it's a burger! Did you miss the episode where I made 'em? Check out this video of me preparing them on the show.
Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks for the link to the diabetic-friendly recipes. My mom is diabetic and I'm always looking for great recipes for her. :)

mise en place, glad you can use them. i've had a diabetes related death in the family, so it was really neat to see my sugars added up in the recipe so they can be user friendly like the back of a box. tell your mom to stay on top of those numbers, as i'm sure she does. :-) ... do you mind telling the ladies at fnfans, thanks for always keeping it classy and thanks for the compliment? the shoes i got on sale at gilt.com ... d&g! at a crazy low price, but they are 2-3 hour heels.

Not that Digital Underground! Yessssssssssss! We should try to cook healthier...well we do try. A lot of the recipes on our site venture in that direction, and the other ones are the complete opposite. :) Good to know you have something for everyone out there.

Sunny!!! {Can you tell I'm excited??} Thanks SO much for stopping by Fleur de Licious today - what an honour!?!

The recipe was devine & the HUbs liked it even more : - )

I'm thrilled to see your TBS Movie & A Makeover debut tomorrow; being in PR, I actually work with Brian Patrick Flynn {TBS' on-air designer} who creates some of the most divine spaces!

TiVo'ing it now...

Your new foodie friend,

Arlynn

the duo dishes, teeheehee, i was waiting to see if anyone felt me on the digital underground. i wrote that then searched for the video, how neat to find a live version of him doing just the hook?! and i try to give up recipes for all walks, but i admit, i am usually lacking in the healthy zone.

arlynn, no prob ... just surfing on a break from recipe writing. hope you like romy and michelle 2moro a.m.!

elva buck, welcome to the blog! thanks so much for watching. i'll get right to business... i think that's a lucky brand top. you can get it at macy's and sak's i think. i don't keep these clothes at home, they are left at work to wear again so if you check back in and see that i'm taping, just ask me to double check and i'll look in my closet at work for ya! thanks again and i hope you like the new shows. i go back to tape in august, but until then the new shows air on saturdays and repeat throughout the week.

Sunny, saw you on The Best Thing I Ever Ate last night. You were cracking me up over that Eggs Benedict! :-) I also am totally digging Food Network Magazine. FINALLY a food magazine that's all about food!

Sunny I just want to say that I love your show and your vibe. Every day I try to cook with you. Just today I watched your North of the Border episode on demand and I loved it. My husband is Mexican and I love cooking up good recipes for him. I do flautas lot, but had never thought of he corn custard. I followed your exact recipe, the only thing that I did differently was add lemon, hot sauce, and parmesan cheese throughout in order to make it taste lie "esquite" which is a mexican street corn in the cups. I am not sure if you have heard of those. But anyway I took it out of the oven about an hour ago and yum...delicious. So I just wanted to say that I watch you every day and I think you are gorgeous. Bye.

Sunny, nice hit on the diabetic recipe! My 12 y.o. girl doesn't have diabetes (yet!), but it's on both her bio-mom's side (Native American, for whom diabetes is almost a given) and on her dad's side.

Do you suppose the FN website might ever include basic nutritional breakdowns for the recipes? I mean, has that ever been batted about that you've heard? I know, I know. It's not like the FN kitchens don't already have enough to do. *big sigh*

I'm teaching my girl to read labels - we usually look for a high protein : carb ratio or more importantly for diabetes a high fiber : carb ratio. Kinda trying to fight off the big D while she's young.

Sunny, Why don't we ever see you wash your hands after handling raw meat??

cooking mama, glad you caught the show! it was pretty easy work for me, go into a studio in front of a green screen and talk about a great meal. i alsmot wished they'd sent me to back to cambridge to eat it again :-( ...

traciy curry-reyes, thanks so much for watching! glad you found the blog! i've had the corn in the cups! i love all things south of the border ... the show you caught was really an ode to, not a copy of recipes. so latin flavors, but really easy to access. glad your hubby liked it! he's a lucky man to have a woman cooking food from his home.

lana, thanks! i didn't even do it on purpose, but when asked to submit a recipe the fn kitchens had many options to choose from in my cache of recipes. i agree, to nutritional breakdowns would be the total NEXT LEVEL of recipe posting for fn ... i'll ask around tomorrow and give ya an answer, i'm in the kitchens all week planning menus for the next run of shows. and girl, raising a label-reading foodie is so responsible! she'll be a much healthier adult and i think that if you are open to food, you are open to life's possibilities. being a foodie is a good character trait in my book.

gschreib, hmmmm i'd have to see which show you are talking about because we are pretty good about letting the cameras catch me wash my hands. even made the counters not as deep so i can wash them without reaching over too much and giving everyone my back, which isn't nice to do to a camera. rest assured, i wash my hands. i think sometimes it can get cut out of the episode for time. other times if i handle it right before the commercial break and then stop to talk about what is next, i wash them during the break. several times. and i even clean under my nails. don't worry, no one on the set has gotten sick and in the studio there are like 30 people watching me ... they won't let me cook dirty if they are eating it and if they are producing it :-). thanks for watching, hope this answers your question and i hope you continue to enjoy the new shows on the way.

That's so interesting. I am watching your show right now. You said that your guy is Hispanic. I am African American too and my husband is Mexican. In fact, I love to mix the 2 cultures together to make incredible recipes that I like to call Mexi-Soul food. LoL. One thing that I know goes over real well is adding macaroni and cheese to tacos, mixed with their flavors is delicious. In fact I have a blog dedicated to this genre. Check it out sometimes.

Sunny Anderson said...

traciy curry-reyes, ok, i am still trying to wrap my head around the mac n cheese in a taco thing ... can you please give details lol ... my visual surely can't be what you mean. i like mixing cultural food as well, the funny things is many foods attributed to one culture sometimes originated elsewhere or are all over other cultures, just with a different name, method and maybe 1 or 2 ingredients that differ. now, back to this mac taco lol ....

Hi Sunny! I love your show and this blog. I recently saw a vid where you did small red potatoes and garlic. It made me think of a little Miami "fast-food garlic crab" place whose name escapes me. It's like a McDonald's for crabs... boiled in garlic water with olive oil, butter, and I think some onion. They make/made (been years since I've been there) an absolutely fabulous "parsleyed potatoes" that was skin on red potatoes, heavy garlic, and wonderfully "overcooked" to where there was a marvelous excess of little bits that was almost like German potato salad.
The reason I'm mentioning this, (beyond a horrible longing for them), is that they did their crabs in almost the same sort of boil. Not heavy spice, but heavy garlic, salt, pepper.
Ever tried them?

Bless you, hon. You do a fantastic job! Keep up all the joy!

dr g., thanks for watching and i'm happy you found my blog! those potatoes in all forms sound good. my favorite is when a place in new orleans puts red bliss potatoes in the crawfish pot and they soak up all the salt and seasonings ... yummmmy in my tummy! never tried the ones you mentioned, but they also remind me of another great potato moment. it's in a new show i taped called 'sunny's summer eats'. i got them at a place in wildwood, nj that serves only hot dogs. hope you catch the show and see them. i think they are worth a trip. pretty darn good. anyway, thanks for all the support and i hope you like the new shows on the way!
