Which is Yummier?

Hey there! The weather has been pretty nice here in NYC, save for some rain this past weekend, it's cooled down a bit. So, me and my dude headed to Coney Island for our ritual summertime trip for a hot dog. As we sat and ate I thought to myself, I've had pretty much every signature hotdog around. I've had Gray's Papaya(6th and 8th Street to be exact) and Nathan's here in NYC, Pink's in Los Angeles, National Coney Island in Detroit, Washington D.C.'s Half Smoke at Ben's Chili Bowl and even a grrrrreat hot dog down in Miami. I'm only really missing The Varsity down in Atlanta and a true Chicago dog ... or am I? Are there more hot dog frontiers to tackle? I have a trip planned soon to Chicago and I plan to give a taste for myself, but I thought I'd ask you to weigh in on it ... with my first-ever Which is Yummier Poll.

Which is Yummier?

Which city has the BEST hot dogs?

Atlanta
Chicago
Detroit
Los Angeles
Miami
New York
Washington D.C

I am going to have to go with New Orleans. So many things you just can't find anywhere else. Plus they give us Emeril and John Besh. I gotta love that!

How about a Chicago hot dog done Green bay style. That is a Vienna Beef dog with cheddar cheese sauce on a poppy seed bun...and that's all that's needed.

Eat a hot dog and fail a drug test, what's not to love?

Sunny,

NY HAS to have the best hot dogs hands down. I look forward to going to Yankee Stadium and getting a dirty water hot dog after visiting Stan's across the street. Too bad I don't like the new stadium at all.

food network fan, are you atalkin hot dogs? i lived there for a while and don't remember spectacular hot dogs, maybe because i was face-deep in gumbo and bread pudding lol ...

complaint dept. mgr., ahhhhh i've seen that recently on a tv show. the bun looked sooooo soft my dude took the name down. so that's on the list ...

geli girl, welcome to the blog!!! thanks for the support. i think it was hot doug's we saw on tv last weekend ... isn't it the one with alligator dogs? it's on our list ... we'll be there.

sue, gosh, i dunno ... it's hard for me to judge because i really want to finish the entire route of eating, but any dog i get on a hot summer train for and the wait in line for, is pretty darn good ... nathan's does that for me. but in detroit, i'd leave my house in the worst of snow conditions for those dogs ... hard choice. stay tuned, i think after chicago i'll be able to make a better choice ...

lydia c, haaaaaaaa! dirty dogs!!!! i've had so many dirty water dogs and knishes at 4am!!! lol ... yeah, i've heard the new house that s.brenner built ain't as hot as the house ruth built ... :-(

Yeah, I'll try to stay with things I hopefully can't mess up and do better. But Sunny, lol, go ahead and enjoy those wieners!

Pink's is no good. :/ But we'll vote for The Stand in LA if it has to be a true establishment. IF we're allowed to vote for food carts, then it's definitely LA's dirty dogs--the bacon wrapped dog with grilled onions, peppers and mayo. Tops them all!

You know, this was TOUGH! I've had both NYC and ChiTown dogs and they're BOTH good(trying to be diplomatic I guess....heee!) but I really have to be in the mood for a saurkraut dog fr: NYC....and Nathans ROCKS...but! I have to pick Chicago. I don't know why but beside the fact that I am from Chicago, their hot dogs are actually meatier, plumper, juicer, have a nice bite thru the casing...etc...

Oh and hello again, Sunny aren't you going to the US Open right there in your backyard?

Try JDogs in Provo, Utah. You won't be dissappointed!

selenasking, i will silly!

the duo dishes, well, to be fair i only had pinks at a catered office event in california, so i don't know if things were the same as eating at the stand. so i can't say if it was great with conviction, i remember the dog having a nice casing pop though, i like that ... sometimes.

chitown momma, thanks for the suggestions in comments. saurkraut reminds me of brats and stuff in germany, missssss it!

selenasking, i actually have never been and i'm so busy right now with fall shows, so no time to head out to qns, but i watch!!! maybe soon i'll make the time, i actually enjoy watching.

anon, if i ever make it, i'll give it a try!

Sunny,
I was catching up on my food sections. Did you see this? http://travel.nytimes.com

It's about the amazing bacon-wrapped Mexican-influenced hot dogs in Tucson. I think they might have to be on your must-try list.

Hi Sunny!
Well, I can say that I have been lucky enough to try all the dogs on your list and then some... being that I'm a Chicago gal through and through I am partial to Windy City style dogs... so when you get here, and if I'm still here, my treat... I'll even spring for fries and a soda pop!!

sean, really??? i still need to do the varsity though, don't you agree? i feel it's missing in my life ...

sue, i'll check the link, thanks. and chances are after i do ... i'll have to then put tucson on the long list of places to eat ... thanks for nuthin! :-P j/k

alex the food diva, lucky gal!!! ben's chili bowl is insane, right? it's hiiiii up on my list! but i think until i do the entire route, i can't make a definitive choice.
