Guy and I Play with Food

Hey there! Remember when I told you about shooting an episode of Guy's Big Bite? Well, it already aired once and I missed the chance to give you advance notice. So hopefully this is within enough time, but it airs TODAY!!!
Catch Guy's Big Bite: Playing with Food featuring me :-) @ 3PM ET/PT.

We make his Bo Peep Pie and My Brother Brusssels then wrap it up with , my O.G. Snap Shake! A little story ... I blew up his blender on our first take. I have a record of things like that happening on-set, one run of taping Cooking for Real, 3 or 4 really thick cutting boards split right down the middle while I was chopping, I've splattered the set with my over ramped stand mixer, dropped eggs, equipment, so much stuff. So, anyway this time around we were almost done with the last act of the show where we make my shake. There Guy was on my left just chatting away with the viewers and for some reason I couldn't get the pitcher off the base of the blender. I use a blender plenty, but I'm accustomed to my stuff and although I'd given his a test-run before the cameras started rolling, I just couldn't figure it out live on camera. Even now as I type I'm laughing because in my head I was stressed out, but on the outside I was just smiling away. It only took a second or two for me to make the wrong move and the shake just gushed and oozed out from the base of the blender. Seems I'd twisted the base out of it's cradle and now my half of Guy's cutting board countertop was a total mess. He turned to see what I'd created and we all had a pretty good laugh. I felt bad because there was clean up involved, but just a few minutes later we composed ourselves and got it done without the mess. I really had a great time shooting the show and was happy when I got invited. Check the old blog link above and tune in today! Hope you catch and enjoy the show! Remember TODAY, Nov, 9th at 3PM!

Shoot! I missed it. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Guy seems like he'd be fun to work with, always having a laugh, as I'm sure you guys did about the shake. And just so you know, I've done the same thing on my own blender before...whoops. Lucky for me though, I didn't have people filming me at the time :)

I saw the episode last Sat. and thought you guys had a really good chemistry together. The blender/cutting board mishaps that happen to you during taping is my dreaded nightmare during a class! I, too, just blew out my blender and had to replace the blade!! Too funny, Sunny, you would never have known it!

Ah! I missed it. But I'll try to catch it another time.

Bo Peep Pie - one would think lamb or mutton instead of beef, hmm? And Brussels sprouts, eh? Love 'em! Hard to go wrong with the bacon and Parm, Sunny!

Too funny about the blender. I've had more than one blender malfunction - one at what was supposed to be a fancy schmancy holiday cocktail party. Oops. Got Daiquiri all over my velvet skirt. Lol. Changed into jeans and just finished out the night. We do what we gotta do, right?

ken, workin during these times is a good thing, so i don't mind your absence, glad you are back though :-). and yes, the jay show was pretty great. I can be a fan now and not worry about losing face lol. people get mad sometimes when you are a dj and a fan, funny but true. glad you like the new hair cut, great thing is cuz it's a wig ... it'll never grow out lol!

nicole, it happens :-) ... i missed it the 1st time too. watching it, you can tell i blew up his blender because he makes a teeny inside joke at the end about it. forgot about that, so now that i've seen it, i'm really happy i gave a back story.

ladivacucina, yeah guy and i are always smiles when we see each other. he really took care of me with some sage advice when i began taping shows. good guy. pun, funny. trust me, i've had plenty of snafu's at demos and i just power through it ... one time with an induction-top, it took foreverrrrrrrrr to get someoil to temp, very annoying, but funny stalling for time in front of an audience. i love gas. eww, sounds funny. hope you never have to fill time like that, but my producer tells me i "suck wind" the best, an industry term for filling time lol ... all those times my fam called me "motor mouth" are totally paying off teeheehee

lana, hey girl! it's cool it'll rerun :-). lemme tell ya, people get real specific when it comes to titles and i've caught the shep-pie debate with my recipe online as well, but all i care about is how it tastes, lol. it was pretty darn good, but i love anything that combines all elements into one dish, meat, starch, veg ... i'm easy to please. just make it comfy tasting... and omg, not at a party!?!? i hope the daiquiri at least matched your outfit :-)

It's funny you say that about the induction stove because that's the same thing that happened to me at one of my classes, took forever for the oil to heat up. It was probably the same problem as me, not the right pan. You need special pans that are magnetic to attract to the burner and get the heat, reg. pans don't work. I found that out by using the wrong pan. Shame they never told me there were different pans, I would not have been able to tell just by looking at them! When I finally got the right one, watch out, that oil heated up really fast!!

"Sucking wind" is hard!!!

ladivacucina, yeah well the funny thing is the event coordinators had the induction tops as a sponsor, so you'd think they'd also provide the proper pan. i only travel with my knife kit. i never really stress though, i totally go in expecting problems, they are inevitable. makes it stress free that way, i've seen some people really stiffen up when things mess up, why? i dunno ...

LaDivaCucina said...

Yeah, I think you and I are alike in "not stressing" about it, makes us more "human" to people in my class and probably to the people you are demonstrating to that might not have as much kitchen confidence. I just think of that one TV episode of Julia Child flipping that omellete on camera and it misses the pan and breaks and she just throws it out!!

I hope I can catch a rerun sometime. I am so clumsy in the kitchen, I'm surprised I haven't really injured myself. Just last week I took something out of the oven, forgot it was hot, and burned my hand.

I've broken knives before and had my food processor upchuck on me. Ah, the joys of cooking and being a spaz. :)

Hey sister! That title can be taken out of context, ya know? LOL! Hope you're well! I am so sorry I missed that but will DVR it next time its on...BTW....I am taking(a bit O/T if you will) your fantastic hazelnut pumpkin pie recipe and changing it for Turkey Day since my boys do not like hazelnut at all...I am replacing all the hazelnut w/vanilla.....I shall post to you and let you know what comes of that.

Take care, blessings and have a wonderful holiday...

PS: Ian still loves ya...as do we!

la diva cucina, yeah ... i am accused of being human way too often lol ... love that i don't have the droid gene. being myself is way easier than putting on affectations. and girl, i loved julia ... she makes it poosible for many of us to ply a trade we love and still bring home the pancetta ...

chi town momma, hey sistaaaa! from anotha mistaaaa :-). ok, i totally need to post my super dawg pics .... think i will today. hope you like the pie!!!

mo, miss ya ... call me next week so i can sneak attack grandma! don't worry about being clumsy, cooking is in our dna thanks to grandma and grand daddy, just reeeeeeelax ... and step away from the biscuits lol :-)

That pie was heavenly! Even the boys couldn't resist, and they're not that keen on pumpkin. I gotta tell them it cures ailments and it's good for the kidneys(something my late grandpa would always say about healthy food, IE, Eat/drink it! Its good for the kidneys!")

Thanks again!

chitown momma, yaaay! i used my recipe but dropped the hazelnut and my guy has single handedly killed the whole pie. I only had a sliver and really concentrated on the tiramisu. glad your boys liked it!!
