One down ... One to go!

Heyyyyy!!! I am tiiiiired!!! teeheehee ... but I first gotta say what a blast I've had these last few days promoting the new shows. So, Friday I did Good Morning America in Bryant Park! Here I am just hangin' out before we go on ...

Then Chaka Khan perfomed. THAT GIRL LOOKS GOOD!!! Like, we were all commenting on how grrrrreat she looked and boy is it nice to see a chick with some hips!! As soon as we finished the cooking segment, it began to rain ... but that didn't stop her! Very Central Park Diana Ross-esque, but not ... cuz she's CHAKA darnit! OKAY?! She hit the notes too, crazy.

Gotta click on this to enlarge to really see her... my cam phone is not too bad ...

Ok ... I didn't meet Ms. Khan, but her security dude, Tony, came over to say hi when she was performing and told me they watch Cooking for Real and they were just happy for me and proud of me, so that was cool, good ol' Tony put a smile in my heart that a.m. ... nice when people say nice stuff when you are nervous! I still had nerves leftover from the cooking segment. It's funny because they gave me about 3-4 minutes for the length of my portion of the segment and then of course I wasn't alone, there were two other chefs (i'm a cook teeheehee), anyway they had plenty of time alloted for all 3 of us in the segment. Then, when it began, me being first ... it was all about leaving time for the others, so what you can't see is riiiiiiight as we begin and Deborah Roberts and I begin our thing, the director hastily began wrapping us up to finish. It was funny cuz in my head I'm like I just started adding spices to the processor, no way 3 minutes passed already. lol!!! Anyway, it was new to be wrapped without a countdown, I think I survived ok, but now I know if I'm the starter in a segment, I can expect to be wrapped before my time. We got our full time in and every one else on the panel got theirs too, so mission accomplished.
If ya missed it, click here and check the Food Network Addict post about it, he has the video up!

Then, yesterday the new episode of Cooking for Real started!!! I hope you like it ... That chicken is crunchtastic! Give it a try if you are a fried chicken fan! New colors on the set and if you are a stickler for change, my lil "L" shaped counter got cut up :-). Already I've had a coupla good responses about people trying it lastnight!!! Feels good, cuz really it's exactly what I do when I watch anything food on television ... I get inspired to cook. Same with a good meal out or even flipping through the pages of a food mag. So, one down and one show to go ....

Last night they did a sneak peak of the show (glad you caught it dtdub) and tonight is the official launch of How'd That Get On My Plate? at 930PM EST on Food Network. I got up at o'dark30 this morning to hang out with Sukanya and the crew at CW11, hope my New Yorkers caught it, I forgot to promote it last week and actually planned to post about it yesterday, but ended up in a Home Depot abyss. I'm gonna see if can get pics from the CW11 visit this a.m. and post em.

Until then, I'm off to Rochester and Portland this week to see all about tomatoes and cherries!! I'll post from the road when I get some down time! Thanks for the support on the new shows and hope you catch How'd That Get On My Plate? tonight at 930!!! (I gotta find a short way to type that show title teeheehee)

YOU MENTIONED ME?!?! I'm a superstar...well, not really, but I'm totally excited.

The new show was good. I was tired last night, but I watched it. It was good. A little bit Alton Brown-esque - but, it wsa good never the less. Good job - can't wait to hear about the next shows.

Um, yea, that fried chicken looked TOOOOOOO good. Why did I add cornstarch to my grocery list? And alright for using my grandmama's trick w/that paper bag! And that TEA - OMG, it looked sooo good. I didn't know sun tea was bad for you - you know that's all we drunk growing up!

dtdub, teeheehee ... gotta give credit where it's due ... like for real, once you go c.starch, you never go back. use my balance or find your own ... just never more c.starch than flour of course. and yeah, i was about to do sun tea like we used to growing up ... then the production team did some research and found sun tea can sometimes harbor bad microbes ... i get it, the heat, a jar, some tea ... microbes can happen especially when you add fruit. anyway, i was like ... well if we don't sun brew it, let's fridge brew it! and voila! recipe! give it a try, it super mild and fresh like spa tea. r you from the south?? whatchooknowbout sun tea!? :-)

Real liked the "honey" episode. That one place concerned me a bit with the copper coming into direct contact with the honey, never was a fan of that method. It also kind of reminded me of an Arkansas 'shine still, not that I've ever been around one, just...heard of what they looked like, yeah that's it.

I'll try to catch Cooking For Real sometime since I'm allowed to watch Food Network again. By the way, why should you be nervous??? You're an exceptional talent, you have 2 shows goin'...I really don't think I need to go further.

You've arrived!

Sunny - the GMA rocked, as I told ya earlier, I've gotten requests to "please make Sunny's Fried Chicken" and now with the new show last night (which I still can't believe how FAST they edited it together), yeah - you are all over the dial. Not bad, not bad at all.

And I still want that pitcher *LOL* will be Fridge brewin' this week. BTW - did the Huevos Rancheros this week - will post about it but they were delish!

I saw it! I saw it! I was preparing a new post for my blog and I was like "Cooking For Real!" screaming aloud and my family thought I was crazy, running through the house turning on the TV instead of running to the kitchen.

I enjoyed it, for real. Your little hoodie was cute. Your chicken, I made for a party last night (with a few substitutions). I'll be posting about that later or tomorrow. I enjoyed the story about your mom and dad. I'm glad it all worked out LOL Your mom's a trip subbing "a familiar chicken" establishment. My people are from NC, too.

Can't wait for next week!

complaint dept. mgr, so you know a bit about moonshinin' huh? :-) ... yeah, i like old school techniques, they may not be healthy in crazy doses, but in moderation ... everything is fiiiiine with me. as for the nerves ... i gotta tell ya i think it's more anxiety? it's a familiar place for me which is cool, but for real with live tv i think i'm like, just hoping i don't do something wrong, i dunno. nervous and anxious is me ... i just want to do the best possible and be able to see myself in it, you know? like i go home and watch it and say ... is that me? lol ... luckily so far it is. :-)

lys, i'm gonna talk to the set stylist soon, i'm only delaying cuz i'm sure it's a long conversation/interview ... she has a great back story and speaks in measured sentences, very artsy and i love it. as soooon as i hat with her, i'll hit u up and give you a heads up on the post. btw, her name is wendy waxman and actually has a bio on fn.com under tv hosts and chefs section ....

nikki, yaaaaaay!!! glad you tried the chicken, i promise the cornstarch is so crucial. so crucial ... u can actually watch it peel back from the skin in little nooks and crannies after you dredge it, it actually makes crunch before your eyes teeheehee .... ahhh food, don't ya love it? i mean really. and for the record cuz i couldn't say it on tv ... it was KFC!!! lol mom did the switcheroo with tha colonel's special blend of spices n herbs lol!!!

Hi Sunny,

I caught the new Cooking For Real! It was off the hinges!!! The chicken looked so darn good. And the corn starch I must do now :)

I also saw the sneak of How'd That Get On My Plate (HTGOMP) LOVED IT! I saw the rootbeer folks on that show with Paula Dean's son a few weeks ago. I'm big on rootbeer and thought about ordering some. You looked liked you were having all kinds of fun in that factory.

Keep rockin em out!

I'm not a big tea person, could leomande be used as a substitute?

Sunny Anderson said...

skooby, sure, just omit the tea bags and i'd add more stone fruits and of course more lemon ... shake a coupla times while in fridge, add sugar it'll work :-) happy non-brewing!
