Woe is Me ...

I'm sick. :-( I got it a couple of days ago and I'm coughing so bad. Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Kramer had a bad cold and found a dog with the same hacking cough, then took it to the vet to get the meds for himself ... anyway, really funny episode. I saw on The Today Show this morning that you should feed a cold and a fever (as opposed to some old wives tales), but I don't have an appetite. I forced some macaroni and cheese, and the simple fact that I said forced and macaroni and cheese in the same sentence is just total proof I'm sick lol. Here are my bedside companions ..
A cookbook about chicken, I read cookbooks like novels. Some throat lozenges that claim to shorten a cold and a glass of OJ that needs a refill. I just hope this is over in a few days. If you are going through it as well, look on the bright side ... if you wanted to drop a few pounds after the holidays, a cold is the way to go :-).

BTW,
remember my first giveaway? Well, I asked a few questions that were easy to find on the internet and waited for the first person with the correct answers. Here they are

1. What Food Network chef gave me my start with a guest spot on their show?
Chef Emeril Chef Emeril Lagasse on "Emeril Live"
What did we make?
Big Green Apple Martini, Sunny's Hot Chicken Wings with Emeril's Blue Cheese Sauce, Jalapeno Corn Muffins, Spinach Orange and Almond Salad, Coconut Cream Pie

2. What building in NYC houses the main studio for Food Network? Chelsea Market

3. How many Bobby Flay series have the word or stem word "grill" in the title? Four
Name them. Hot Off the Grill with Bobby Flay, Grillin' & Chillin', Boy Meets Grill, Grill It! with Bobby Flay

4. Who won season 4 of NFNS? Aaron McCargo, Jr.

5. Where does Guy Fieri's Roadshow end? City and venue. Las Vegas, House of Blues

In record time, Geli Girl aka Angel sent in her response via the comments section and I had my first winner! It took me a couple of days, but I loaded up the bag and even threw in some other stuff for fun. She just sent me some pics of her with the gift bag, it got there just in time for Christmas ...
As I started to fill her bag with stuff from my bag, I realized how much stuff these companies giveaway at events. Olive oil, nail files, seasoning packets, powdered drinks, oven mitts and the list goes on. I couldn't resist also sending her the gift bag from the recent Wine and Food festival too ...
Angel said she wished she'd taken a video of her opening the box, but said here's a picture instead ... fellow foodies, meet one of your own .... Angel!
Angel, thanks so much for participating and just being a cool foodie overall. I enjoy our comment chats and look forward to more fun in the next year! Have fun and thanks for the pics!

I'm sorry you are sick :( Guess I shouldn't tell you I have had the crud since Thanksgiving and have been to the doc once already for a shot and meds. I think I need to go back. Might not hurt to check in with yours and be smarter than me-she chewed my butt for waiting so long :)

What a cool gift-I bet she loved it!

Hi Sunny,
I am sorry that you aren't feeling well. Try to have some chicken soup and I hope that you start to feel better soon. The prizes from your giveaway look awesome! If you decide to have another giveaway I am in.

Hope you feel better soon!

It's amazing how many times something happening in my life will remind me of a Seinfeld episode. And then what's even more amazing is that quite often that very night a rerun of the exact episode will be on. Cue Twilight Zone theme . . .

lys, yaaay angel! what a nice comment! thanks for spreadin the cheer lys ...

tamilyn, i am still sick ... this is day 4 i think. i finally called my dad (he's a doc) got a directive from him and i'm stickin to it, so far so good ...

cathy, it's ok, i'm surely not the only one, which is why i shared that i'm sick. we all catch a germ here and there that take us down! another giveaway is on the way!

tiklish, i totally agree about the seinfeld thing, i am a huge fan, i've seen them all, can quote them all, and find something several times a week that remind me of the show. what's your fave sstory line? i have so many, but i 1st to mind is when elaine was getting bad write ups at the doc cuz of her drawn on eyebrows. i like the florida stuff with the parents running for office and i like the "mandlebaum, mandlebaum, mandlebaum" episodes. then of course the bet ep. then i like bizarro world. remember when kramer got rusty some beefaroni and it ruined george's scheme to get the marble rye back? and then you can't forget him in the office with the maid ... "cashmere ... oh georgie when i was a little girl ..." lol ... ahh the list goes on. i did an episode of cooking for real and i am proud to say ... i now have a recipe for a "Big Salad" on foodnetwork.com!! totally a seinfeld geek lol ... and btw, i'm also a twilight zone freak, have most of the older ones on dvd. my fave of that series is the one where the toys are trapped in the toy bin and the one where the lady keeps thinking someone like her is sitting with her luggage in the train station ... also the one where the guy is an actor and starts to believe his script is his real life. good stuff ...

My favorite Seinfeld? Wow. There are so many. Some you mentioned already. Hmm. Well, oh, probably my very favorite is when George is doing the opposite and everything goes well for him. I can relate to George way more than I would like.

Wow, you have NO idea how exciting it was to see a comment from you on my blog!!! I just started it about a week ago, and I was sure no one would see it, much less a Food Network star! So thank you so much! I love your show, everything you make is really accessible (especially for a poor college student) and really tasty! Hopefully you didn't mind me posting your recipe on my blog - I'm hoping the credit I gave was enough.

Anyways, have a happy New Year!

Thanks,
Sara (Athens, GA)

Sunny, Hope you feel better soon girl, being sick is a bummer. Especially for happy bubbly people such as yourself.

That pic of Angel is so cute! Love seeing people excited about cooking and learning.

I am completely hooked on your shows and recipes, when are you putting out your own cookbook?? My boyfriend just got back from Iraq in August, and i've been trying to cook him all sorts of yummy food (so many of your recipes are his favorites!) So I wanted to say thank you for inspiring me to become a better cook and to try new things, seeing you demonstrate always makes the recipes not feel so intimidating.

This might be a strange questiom, but I am a skin care salesperson and you always have the freshest complexion! What's your secret?

xoxo! feel better!

Hi Sunny, sorry you are sick but like me on Turkey day, it's a sure way to lose that extra holiday weight! Haha!

I like your cookie photos, I was averaging about a dozen a day. (EATING them, not making them!)

My fave Seinfeld: George saying "CAAAA-stan-za" and the one where his girlfriend Susan has a doll that looks just like his mother. Oh and the one where Elaine goes to the Korean manicurist with George's father! Too many good ones!

Did you get my message that I got a Puerto Rican cookbook for Christmas, m'kay? Si, mami, not sure what to make first but anything with guava or puerco will be a good start!

Happy New Year and feel better, mama!

Happy New Year Sunny and to all the blog readers!

Seriously, I was so excited to open up the package that I didn't even think about getting out a video camera until the very last minute. It would have been nice to capture my giddiness of it all as I looked at each and every cool item in the moment! I am really thankful! Such a cool, cool, cool prize for a foodie and Food Network fan.

I can't wait to see who else will be winning future giveaways, so the love and excitement can be shared!

I'm looking towards more fun and more shared thoughts over the blog in 2010 too!

tiklish, "left is right, up is down!" ... that is like the one where he wears sweatpants the whole time. they are a so good right? and don't worry ... i'm totally elaine at times!

sara, well i'm out there roundin up foodies regularly, so glad i caught ya in my net ... on the net :-). i like the post, and trust me i was a very poor college student once. i had a part-time job with full-time hours and took full time hours at school. i could care less about money then though ... sleep was more valuable, don't you agree!? good luck on your studies, i never mind if you use a recipe when you give credit. no worries :-) and welcome to the blog!

reyna, thanks for spreadin the foodie love. i am feeling a bit better, but not 100%. i mean how many days can i take nyquil and tylenol pm? i was so groggy. i'd rather fight the last bits of it with food and good spirits. if you are going to be at the fest, please send me a comment the week of and we can catch a drink, on me! that goes for anyone reading this. maybe we should have a bloggers lunch? i wonder if there are enough people that will be there to attend? let me know in comments guys and i'll set something up.

kelly, getting better! i'm still happy and stuff, just slow. and angel is cute huh? such a happy face, a picture really can say a thousand words huh? hey, give your bf a nice hug from a fellow military vet. i know how hard it was for you. i grew up with my dad in the field on tdy all the time and the sacrifice the families make is huge. your guy is lucky to have ya! sending 'just add water' packets to irag is over for you :-). ok, about the skin ... i have to admit, it's makeup. i mean, i think i have regular skin. i still get pimples at 34 and i have some uneven tones because of my skin color. so the creamy face is mostly make up. but if you care, i use philosophy face wash and aveeno face wash alternately, i do a clay warming mask maybe once a month before bed, then i over lotion my face and sleep on it, i don't use astringent (prolly why i get pimples lol) and then i moisturize with keihls lotion with spf and the abyssine serum when i remember to. but none of it works, lol. i still think my skin is a mess, don't we all? it's all the airbrushing and expert makeup these ppl wear. i also think water is good ... i drink plenty of it cuz the lights dry skin out. hope that helps!

ladivacucina, i did lose some weight. about 6 lbs. crazy right? i just had absolutely no appetite. omg, i forgot the serenity now episodes. and i like that episode too, with the manicurist. george's dad is a mess. remember the "stopping short" stuff in the car? too funny. ok wait, i also like the backwards episode where they go to india for pinter's wedding. that and when elaine and jerry go see "the baaaaby" and the doctor calls it "breathtaking" lol omg, i laugh so hard at that every single time. i have some pr themed episodes on the way, i tape again in feb. hope you like them!!!! i'm gonna make mofongo easy to make for all americans!! i hope it helps out some pr home cooks! happy new year to you too ... so glad we connected last year! i can still remember the words of your blog exactly. you just said it so well and then i thought to myself, hey wait ... she's one of us!

geli girl, thanks for spreading the foodie love! happy new year to you too!

OMG I've been sick all week - no cough but flu like symptoms. I'm finally feeling better. My remedies consisted of Alka Seltzer Plus Cold, Airborne, and more than a few hot toddy's!

Hope you're feeling better!!

mary, i started on tylenol pm, moved on to spiked egg nog in lieu of a toddy and finished the cold up on nyquil cough and bayer lol...so happy to be healthy again!!! just some lingering coughs and that's it!

Sunny, your comment back to me was soooo touching, truly. Thank you.

Glad we connected too and can't wait to see your ep on the mofongo! yeah-uh!

So glad you're feeling better! On the mend over here too, but it was a good week to get there. Hopefully these frigid temps right now won't give me a recurrence!! They are talking teens. In the deep south!! Can you imagine?? And it's sticking around awhile this time.

Sunny Anderson said...

laduvacucina, ;-). this mofongo, which i am titling "fuax-fongo" is taking over my kitchen! my guy won't stop asking for it! lol. i don't like repeats alot in the kitchen ... so it's hard. but i aim to please.

mary, i feel way better, still some remnants, but i can fight that with healthy food. and speaking of the south, one of the worst winters i've ever had was in san antonio texas back in 96 ... baaaad.
