My trip to the Doctor, Oz that is

Hey there! Well, I told you yesterday about my plans to visit the set of Dr. Oz today and I took a few pics to show you what the day was like. I got up at 6AM this morning to get into the 7AM car they sent for me. I actually snoozed until 620 and got in the car a tad late, but that's because I live much closer to Manhattan than most think. Some people think Brooklyn is far and some parts of it are, but where I live is pretty close. I can get from home to midtown in about 25 minutes. Pretty fast, so I always know I can get in extra snooze button hits when I work in the city and someone sends a car.

At 745 I arrived at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and was greeted curbside and hustled inside where I showed my I.D. to get a badge and then we caught an elevator to Dr. Oz's Studio, which I found out is Conan O'Brien's old studio. I dropped my bag in my little green room and headed to the studio for the show rehearsal.
That's my view of the stage as I wait in an empty audience for my turn to go up and run through my segment. That's the floor director, the director and Allie, my segment producer. Again, I just think television is such a happy place because everyone on the Dr. Oz staff was so nice and pleasant. Really cool for an early morning call. I wake up pretty happy and it can be boring if I'm the only one pumped up at 8AM. Almost right after I took the above picture, it was my turn to go on stage and rehearse the segment.
That's my point of view from the stage. We basically just went through where we'd stand, who would do what when and how much time we had to get the segment done. It all took about 5 minutes and then I was escorted back to my room where I was greeted by an hour or so of hair and make up and a plate of green room food ... Dr. Oz style ...
Yes, you are looking at a plate of healthy mini bran muffins! When I realized what they were I giggled to myself a bit and then thought, well did I expect him to have bagels and cream cheese and bacon and eggs or something? It's Dr. Oz! So, anyway, I give him a big thumbs up for the healthy start. I had one and it was so moist and something about a bran muffin always makes me drink plenty of water, so of course, the drink of choice back stage at Dr. Oz was water. Perfect. I guzzled a few mini water bottles, brushed off the crumbs and sat still to get some professional work done and then snapped a pic ...
I waited in my room and went over notes for about 30 more minutes and then it was go time! I headed to the stage and got set up where we planned and next thing you know we were live ... to tape. Jill was the name of the audience member that joined us on stage and she was really cool under pressure and plenty of fun to do the segment with. Hope you catch the show when it airs. Here's Dr. Oz and me after we taped the segment.
That's me hunching and giggling, a habit I need to drop in pictures, but it does catch a moment in time, so hey. We'd both just finished laughing about something. He's such a nice guy, I guess in his language you'd say he has great bedside manner. I grew up with a daddy that is a doctor, so I think it's great that he is having a national conversation about the things we often discussed at home growing up, but I knew other households weren't so much judging from my friends. Medicine and personal health are so personal to some that it seldom gets discussed. Anyway, I had a chance to tell him thanks and he was so gracious and we even giggled a bit. Nice guy and I can't wait for you guys to see the show!! It airs April 28th! So please set your TiVos and DVRs!!! I'll put up a reminder closer to the date, but just so you know.

Instead of running back home right after taping the show I ran errands and then right as I was about to head underground for the ride home, I ran into the perfect way to book end my Dr. Oz visit ...
The cupcake truck!! I know, I know ... I had such a good start, but I've heard and even read about this truck in the paper and it's a traveling truck. That means you gotta catch it when you see it, or follow it on Twitter or something, I'm sure. Anyway, no matter how I rationalized it ... I was going to stop! Take a look at the menu ...
I decided on the mini 5-pack. It struck me as pretty neat I could get the same package size as the bran muffins from Dr. Oz, plus the 12 pack would mean that I'd have to eat them all. I can do that, but why? Summer is on the way! Time to drop a quick 10 and fit into a cover up! Lol ... and OMG I just realized typing this that it means I payed a buck each for a teeny MINI cupcake!?!?!? Sugar will make you do crazy things, huh? Ok, well, just wanted to share a bit. Here's my mini cupcakes, minus a bite. :-)
And after eating 2 more, I can firmly say they are each worth $1 and for their size, they are extremely moist! Which is sometimes hard to do in a tiny tin. Glad I ran into them and got a chance to poetically end my business day kinda the way it started, save for a few extra calories on the end.

Don't forget the Dr. Oz segment airs on his April 28th show! Hope you tune in!!!

Oh that is just sinful, a truck that carries cupcakes around!! :) I'm afraid my impulses would have taken over for the 12 pack.

You look great Sunny - love the dress! Will try to catch ya on the 28th. I have to get up early to catch Dr. Oz and I'm one of those "lovers of the snooze button" too!

You got me at CUPCAKE TRUCK! I never knew there was such a thing. I would’ve definitely gone for the FULL 4 pack, LOL! And all of those would’ve been the Oreo Crumb! That sounds so good!

I’ll definitely set the DVR for the show. It sounds like you had an awesome experience! And I love what you said about the bagel and cream cheese, etc for breakfast there! I definitely laughed out loud! :)

Hi there Sunny,
I must say, you seem so very happy at this point in time. I am so very proud and happy for you. So many of us are so pleased for you and since you allow us along for the ride it's so easy to get caught up in living somebody else's dream, so I want to gently encourage my blogger family to live out your own dreams as well...but thank you for reminding us that dreams and prayers really do manifest. Happy B'Day!!!

Love,
Linda (B'Ham)

daphne, heyyyyy!!!! so cool of you to check into the blog!! it was nice meeting you and your friend after the show! hope you didn't mind my long guuuuy land accent lol. you must hear it all the time like i hear sunny jokes! anyway, it was so nice of you to stop me and say hi, glad you did and even happier you found the blog! thanks so much for watching and for the support!! welcome to the blog! nuthin but happy foodies over here, stick around!

mary, hey girl. yes ... it was just so wrong, it was right. and can i tell you something funny? as i was looking at the healthy dr. oz bran muffins, in my brain i was thinking cupcakes ... like wouldn't cupcakes be great right now? and then to run into the truck right outside of my train station, it was foodie kismet lol. hope you like the oz segment, it was fast and fun and i was just too excited to meet him. so happy for him, he seems like just a regular guy plucked from the hospital and now he has camera's in his face and stuff. i bet it was a big change for him. pretty cool.

jen, teeheehee ... i know right? as you can see, i almost forgot to get a picture before the eating began. and i didn't want to eat them on the train because even though i show a bite into one, they were really small enough to just pop in your mouth. i would've looked like a pig and i prefer to pig out in private lol. if i ever get a show, not that it's a plan -- just saying, my green room food will be sleep inducing lol. i'm talkin heavy, creamy, sugary ... all bad. and then i'll have a gym membership certificate or something lol.

linda, thanks, i must say i am so happy you are here. i also want you to know i don't get happy just about the big stuff, but the small stuff like findin tiny cupcakes after eating tiny muffins. i just am happy with how life can be. you can really work towards stuff and make it happen, but then there are things you don't work for, like cupcakes ... that can make you smile and realize life isn't too bad. i want you to know from deep inside me, this is a beautiful life for us all. for us all, so that means we can all live our dreams ... we just have to figure out what they are and work towards them. thanks for being here on a regular basis, you represent to me what i wanted as i continued to chase the dream ... another dreamer to dream with :-). thanks for the continued support, it will get old to you, but i'll say it again so you know i truly mean it ... i can't do it without you.

Happy Birthday Sunny! ~ mine is later this month too. If you know RR you could tell her that I need financial help.

cookie, thanks for watching and trying a recipe!!! i just wanted to say hi to a fellow foodie blogger. on here, we are all the same. i'm no celeb, just a chick with a dream and it wasn't to be on tv, it was to continue to do what i love. i love to cook and so many other things and i can't believe i've been afforded the chance in life to continually do what i love and make a living at it. so, welcome to the blog and i hope you check in from time to time. i just share behind the scenes stuff and tid bits. take a look at the archives if you ever need to waste time at work or something :-)

dolphinfanhg, hey girl! i bought the 5 pack, but mentally ate the 12 pack lol!!

complaint dept. mgr., darius knows the support i'm throwin him, still waters run deep. :-) btw, omg have you seen his flavors?!? he's about to take over the cupcake world!

selenasking, thanks for the birthday wishes! ok, now let's address the next thing you mentioned. I don't "know" her at all, but have met her on several occasions. even then, i think it difficult to just say to someone, "hey i have a blog-friend that needs financial help". that being said, lemme tell you what one of my best friends fiona told me when i left radio to chase down tv. she's a journalist and often has lean times because she's freelance. i only had a year's salary saved up when i left radio and knew it would run out before a year because i was moving. she told me, don't worry about it, when you need it ... it will show up. i took a deep breath and just trusted her. she was right, every time over the next year or so when i had the feeling i was gonna go bust, something happened. no miracles, just things worked out. i worked in 3 positions outside of my career path just to pay the bills while i was chasing down the dream, so it wasn't easy, but surely possible. don't stress and let money get control of you. when you need it, it will show up.
