So, I was all ready to post up some wheat field pics and tell of the stories of me drinking wheat beer and then I go home to my new place and it was part "I wanna rest in my new place" and part "omg, I have so much housework to do!". So, both sides of myself fought each other last week and this weekend. I coulda blogged that, but it would've been talk of caulk and ventilation hoods and the perfect broom search n stuff, not entertaining. I also got side-tracked watching the Olympics. Then, I had so much work last week ...
I did some voice overs for How'd That Get On My Plate? and I went in to the Food Network studios and taped some "interstitials". Do ya know what those are? I would prolly call them webisodes or vignettes, but the proper word here is interstitials. These are the little videos you see online that run on my page and others :-) showing technique's or recipes and such. I already have a few up on my page, but they were edited down from Cooking for Real. The two I taped last week are specific to a special project and one of them was the 12 Days of Cookies, the website's popular holiday email gift!! So, hopefully you've signed up or when it becomes available you'll sign up. I don't wanna ruin the surprise of what I made, but here's a 1st person point of view from me in the studio last week taping...
I was way too happy that day to see the crew from Cooking for Real, they work with everyone else too, so they are in the building constantly. Emeril was taping Essence of Emeril that day too and I got a chance to say hi again and tell him thanks for such a nice introduction to the network. Then at the very end of me taping the interstitials, I had a quick promo to tape for the web department ... it was scripted and here's my point of view of the teleprompter at the tail end of the promo ...
Yes, I did wink ;-) ... it was a cute lil script.
Ok, here are some wheat pics .... This is the wheat farm in Washington state. I can't remember how many acres, but it's plenty. I mean, wheat as far as the eye can see. Here's me and the head honcho chatting about endosperm, bran and grain. Then a shot of the crew doin' what they do :-)
Then one of the producers, Laurie and me saying "wheeeeeat" for my cell cam between takes.
And here I am hanging solo in the field ... really amber waves of grain like the song ... just fields and fields of wheat. BTW, it looks nice, but it's dry and crinkly, I'm still finding little bits in my shoes.
Then, for lunch we had the same brown bag as the field crew and boy was it packed to the top with surprises!!! Look, that pic below doesn't even show the real contents.
I couldn't frame it in enough time and I was hungry ... but what you don't see is a Payday bar, 2 snack bags of chips and various other snacks! Those farmers need their carbs and sugars!!!
What a great sandwich too. We're talkin' cheese on both sides, big thick slices of ham, tomato, lettuce, mayo, mustard and omg!!!!! A BIG SLICE OF ONION!!!! I'm a sucker for a homemade sandwich, so this was IT for me! Took a dissection flick ... her layers are like a fine layered cake lol ....
Then how bout I post up some beer pics later ... I gotta get on a flight to my second to last destination for How'd That Get On MY Plate?, which brings me back to the title of this post ... time sure is flying ... months ago starting this show I thought I'd never get off the road and now ... it's almost over! Can't wait for a teeny rest from the flights and being away from home.

You know - you are such an inspiration, really you are. Thanks for sharing all of the behind the scenes like you do - it's so interesting seeing it all.
Um, amber waves of grain, huh? That's too funny.
Oh, I watched the show w/the NYC faves and that Italian Ice recipe is what's up. I do something similar (and quick) just by tossing lime juice, sugar, ice, and water (and sometimes a wee bit of tequila, okay...more than a wee bit) into a blender. I posted it on my food blog and someone named is a Tequila Lime Cooler. I'm like, 'cool, I'm down with that' LOL.
Oh - other good news too. This site in chicago called inchicity.com (which you know of - I saw your interview) wants me to come aboard as a food blogger. They saw my nomination for my food blog for the black weblog awards and e-mailed me. Um, I'm happy.
Sorry this is long - I haven't "chatted" with you in sooo long and I guess I have tons to say. I hope all the flying goes well. I'm off to get caught up on the rest of your life - lol.
And um...why do I want a sandwich now - lol...that one looks yummers!
dtdub!! omg! what great news ... i must admit, i dropped your blog name in the interview :-) ... she was like any chicago stuff you like ? i was like life experiences and the museum! u r on the way!!! hope you get a check, if not, great exposure and more foodie friends! and no prob on the blog stuff, i'll say it like i always do, as a viewer i allllways wanted the inside look from someone, especially since i was working on getting 'inside' lol, so now i'm just doing what i wish was here before me and maybe it benefits people's curiosity, cuz i'm an inquisitive person too and just could get enough info, so here i am adding more to the pile ... thanks for the support and i love your blog dude. hilarious. aaaaand how bout i went and got some 12 grain bread and cold cuts last week!?!?! made a big-un. and then had mad toast lol ....
