Mary J @ GMA YAAAAAAAY!

Ok, I just got back from taping GMA and I'm headed out to Coney Island for a dog and some fries, that marks the official beginning of summer for me! Check out who I would have to say is my favorite singer. Period. All genres all decades, ahem next to Michael Jackson. :-) So I guess she's my fave female artist ...
I was so excited I took this pic last night when my guy was setting up the DVR to record the show ...
In my life (pun intended), with being such a huge fan of hers, would I ever imagine being billed next to her. Never. I mean, huuuuge fan here. In my long radio career I only met her only once and did her the favor of not gushing like crazy and telling her how much her art meant to me then. It helped that I was at work and I needed to keep my cool, I did the same today as I politely asked for a picture, I just really wanted to gush. That's when I know I like someone, I'm speechless and at a loss for words, or really the courage to say them. Almost never happens with my motor mouth. Let me tell you though ... her legs were on fiiiire! Look ...
Closer ...
Crazy tight! I need to get in the gym. lol.
I totally loved her outfit, the jumper craze is one I have to watch walk by because I'm just not built for it, but Mary wore it well and of course sang her tail off. I caught a teeny tear dripping from my right eye when she performed No More Drama. Amazing to feel it in every chord. She delivers every time I see her. The crowd was so loud for her the hosts couldn't even hear each other, pretty crazy. Take a look ...
What a performance! I wish you were there if you're a fan like me. Mary rushed off to the Essence Festival in New Orleans to deliver again. Here are some other pictures and when I get back from my stroll through Brooklyn, I'll hunt down the video clip in case you missed what I was grillin!
That's Chris, Elizabeth and Marisol. I made my Sunny Side Up Burger, Summer Corn Salad and Chocolate Chip Butterscotch Pie.
I think Marisol really liked the dessert, it truly is a pie of fluffy goodness. I really dumbed down marscarpone cheese for the recipe teeheehee, but it works so well here. A must try if you have a sweet tooth. Here I am at the grill.
We literally pulled up to the back stage area like 20 seconds before I had to go on the air for the first of 2 "teases". That's the lingo for when they show you what's on the way during the show. If you caught it live, it's evident in the first tease that I'm out of breath! lol ... I'd just run up the hill from the parking lot behind the stage. Pretty funny. Here I am between teases with my makeup artist JJ ...
I've known her almost 10 years and never thought we'd get to work together because of her schedule. Pretty cool to know someone for that long, as a military brat ... I don't have much of that. Speaking of, have a wonderful 4th of July weekend with your friends and family and a special thank you to all the military members here and abroad keeping us free. Enjoy the grill!

Girl, I've got to try that Chocolate Chip Butterscotch Pie! Where can I find the recipe?

As always, I'm loving the blogs, keep em coming-oh and I served in the Air Force but grew up a military brat also, so I totally understand what you mean about not knowing people for very long :)

Happy 4th!

anonymous, teeheehee i totally agree and if you were around these parts often you would know from my words that i don't like to be accidentally labeled a chef. i respect the game, but also know we home cooks have plenty to offer. so, although i'm sure your comment could be an attempt at snark, it missed it's mark because i agree with you. that's cool though, and i'll have you know, yolk oozing down a medium rare burger is something great. i've even known some chefs to do it ;-). thanks for watching!

addyb, girl, please do. it's fluffy and gooey with the butterscotch sauce. just google my name and the recipe title together and it'll pop up so you can see bells n whistles, but here it is in simple text;
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
Pinch salt
1/4 cup heavy cream
Pie Filling:
8 ounces mascarpone cheese
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch salt
1/2 cup mini-chocolate chips
1 (6-ounce) pre-made chocolate cookie pie crust

For the butterscotch sauce: melt the butter in a sauce pot over medium-high heat. Add the brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Bring to a simmer and stir until golden amber in color, about 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from heat and slowly stir in the cream. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool.

For the filling: add the mascarpone cheese and the heavy cream to a large bowl and whish until combined. Add the sugar, vanilla, and salt. Whisk until soft peaks form, then fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the filling into the crust, smoothing out the pie surface. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours and serve drizzled with butterscotch sauce.

hope you like it!

Hey Sunny,
Thanks so much for taking photos with Sisters of Today & Tomorrow (SOT). We are actually in the background of a couple of your shots during the GMA concert Series featuring Mary J. Blige. We gave you a shout out on our blog. Check it out. www.sistersoftodayandtonmorrow.blogspot.com. And quite a few of the girls said the most exciting part of their SOT GMA experience was meeting and seeing you do your thing with the food. I hope this can be a true connection with you and the girls (SOT), as we are a national nonprofit organization focused on girls ages 9-18 and their mothers (or woman in their life). Carla Morrison
