If you want to see some behind the scenes of the show check my blog post titled TGIF: ThanksGiving It's Friday . Wanna see the Food Network page with show info and recipe links? Then check the Dear Food Network page. Want to see some behind the scenes video with Giada and the crew? Check Giada's Family Therapy mini-video. Have time for more than one Thanksgiving-themed video from Food Network? Check the Food Network Thanksgiving Video Page and see some tips, behind the scenes ... everything. If you miss it tonight, don't worry ... it reruns.

TGIF: ThanksGiving ... It's Friday!?

Hey there! Yesterday, I headed over to the Food Network kitchens in Chelsea Market to tape segments for an episode of Dear Food Network. It's a show where viewers write in, email or send videos of their culinary questions to us and we answer them over the course of a show. I participated in a couple of episodes last year, so I was totally excited to be asked for a return. This time around the topic was Thanksgiving. I developed a couple of recipes for the show and also offered some holiday tips for a viewer. The cool thing about this show is, plenty of people have the same issues around the holidays, so the questions are unique, but they cover great ground. Here's my POV of the 'set' ...
You can jusssst make out some of the ingredients to one of my recipes. Here are a few blurry flicks of me at work ...
A view through a monitor on set, so the crew can see how the viewer at home will have the image framed and seen on their television ...

And the camera men working hard to focus on the food!
Question: In blog world ... Do 4 blurry photos equal one clear one? If so, here's a clear one of myself and another guest on the show, along with one of our coworkers ...
On the left is Jay Brooks, she works in the Food Network kitchens and does so many things. To try and encompass them in a sentence would be silly. She's an amazing chef, food stylist and before I even began working at the network she was a smiling face of encouragement through my final screen test. I can't even really tell you how much the latter means to me. To know no one on the kitchen staff and have her as my first working introduction, was pretty neat. Again, I can't really say enough. She was there to help prep the ingredients and lend support from the kitchen. BTW, if you subscribe to Food Network Magazine, you can catch many of her recipes out of the 100s in each issue ... yes ... HUNDREDS. The mag is a mini cookbook and really, think about it, some cookbooks don't even have that many recipes, and there are pictures for every recipe in the mag! I know, this sounds like an ad ... but it isn't, you gotta check it out. Pretty nice and it takes up less bookshelf space! And hey, I just thought to tell you ... remember this post? Well, in the new issue on stands now, the team at Food Network Magazine feature a small story about Food Network chefs and their tattoos. They caught my blog and asked if they could use the picture I took of Michael Symon's leg for his part of the tattoo story. Of course I said yes and now I'm pretty happy to have a picture credit in this fine magazine, even if it isn't a photo of food. Kinda makes up for all the blurry photos I post up here for viewing, eh? No? I digress ... :-)

Then on the right of me is Claire Robinson, host of 5 Ingredient Fix! I met her for the first time a few weeks back, but it was so brief and I didn't get a flick, so I didn't tell ya, sorry. . Again, if I tweeted, I'm sure I would've ... these are the things people tweet, stuff they can tell you in detail later I guess. It was a quick chat the first time, this time we sat and chatted while I devoured a tuna nicoise salad for lunch. She's funny and lively and lives right here in New York. She was there to tape segments on Dear Food Network as well, though I'm not quite sure it's the same episode, but it may be. I didn't check, bad reporting skills.

I don't know when the show airs, but when I do I'll post it. Until then ... want a couple more hints at one of my recipes for the show?? While developing and testing the recipes for the episode at home, I took some pictures along the way ...

Any guesses?

I forgot to tell you about Dear Food Network - Holiday Desserts airing last night :-(. No worries, like many other networks I enjoy, Food Network knows how to throw us busy people a bone with repeats! It reruns this Saturday, Dec 13, 2008 at 2:00 PM ET/PT. When I taped this episode, we were in the Food Network kitchens and although we are dressed in long sleeves like it's cold, boy was it hot in there! We had to turn the fans off for sound and the air is connected to a fan lol, which was directly connected to our sweat! Funny thing is, the drink I made was hot and even though we were burning up we not only sipped it, we polished it off on the walk from the set to the elevator at the end of the day! It's really yummy, so if you like hot drinks, give it a try! Remember, this Saturday afternoon at 2 :-).

Every night this week a different episode of Dear Food Network runs at 9 PM ET/PT? I give little holiday tips in each and recipes in a few. So, tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec 10, 2008 at 9:00 PM ET/PT, catch a new recipe from me. This one was fun, it's called Dear Food Network - Roast Beast. I did a garlic-heavy roast that I hope you give a try if you are a garlic lover! I came up with the recipe shortly after returning home from a trip all about garlic. I was taping How'd That Get On My Plate? and I remember talking about 40 clove chicken so much the week I was in garlic city aka Gilroy, CA. When I got home all I could think was, beef needs garlic love too. So, there it is for you if like garlic, give the recipe a try and have fun with it adding your twists if you like!

Tonight check out Dear Food Network - Turkey Day Disasters at 9p.m., along with Guy Fieri, Tyler Florence and Michael Symon, I'll help a viewer with a cooking problem that is Thanksgiving related. All this week the Dear Food Network special runs with different episodes each day, I make an appearance in all of them giving holiday tips, but only make recipes in a few. Check them all out and hopefully if you have any holes in your menu, you can plug em up!

When I taped this episode, I posted about it? Check out the behind the scenes and stuff in my Super Tuesday post and have a look at the set before tonight's show. A quick story ... My recipe calls for hazelnut creamer for coffee, but when I got to the set all they had was the liquid creamer, not the powder. Once we realized it, no one could figure out where to get some powder for the recipe in a rush, so when I taped my segment the "powder" I added wasn't coffee creamer. A total fake out, no one ate that pie on set I'm sure, lol ... I've learned since then to be very specific about ingredients when sending them via email ... Enjoy the show!!!

Super Tuesday!

Hey all!
Well, it's Wednesday now, but I had such a super Tuesday, I thought I'd share how I topped it off after having a great time with Wendy Williams at her radio show. My dude met me in the city for dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Negril. My favorite waiter Eddie was there and I met the new manager. My fave spot is doing new things!! They have a convention watching party this Thursday night for any New Yorkers that love Caribbean food and politics. I've been going there since I moved here in 2001 and they have always had such a cool vibe, I actually talk about them in an upcoming episode of Cooking for Real. This isn't an ad, just one of those places you tell a friend about. :-) I had the herbed coconut salmon and my dude killed the seafood creole, then we hopped in the car in search of my billboard. Easy to find ... it's right next to work! So, I hopped out and after figuring out how to get both myself and the billboard in the frame, my dude took the camera from me and I went and took his place in the street to get the shot, I got so excited and threw my hands up, and he snapped mid-thrust! A truly candid moment, at a really happy time! Take a look ...
leave it up to my dude to crop the flick like that ... sorry, not intentional. :-)

Then today I finished up the Dear Food Network shoot I started last month. Today, I answered 4 different questions from viewers, so if you sent in a video or an email ... it could've been you! I probably can give too much info because this is going to run in the holiday months which is huge for the network, but I'll tell ya I made some cookies, some protein, some pie and a few great recipes that will be grrrreat for your holiday leftovers. Here's a pic of one of the top-secret desserts. I tested it in my kitchen at home after I wrote the recipe ... this is 5 minutes from done ...

and me just smiling between acts ... the cookies, yummy, thin and still chewy ... recipe in the show to come!
