New Cooking for Real Sunday! Fish and Grits

Hey there! I've had such a busy week taping the new season of Cooking for Real and can't wait to share the new recipes and pictures from behind the scenes. Today on Food Network is a new episode of the show I taped earlier this year. I call it Fish and Grits and it's pretty literal, not a play on words this time :-). Check the menu ...

My Catfish Nuggets - Cut em down and they cook faster! Plus I got the idea for the quick hot sauce mixture from a place here in NYC called Prune. They serve it on a fried oyster omelet ... crazy!!

Creamy Cheesy Grits - Simply one of my fave things for breakfast. I just had a conversation about grits vs. cream of wheat and if they deserve sugar vs. savory. Where do you stand? I'm a salty grits and sugary cream of wheat person. I can't switch the two and just don't understand sweet grits, not for me at least. I love how different food is for everyone.

Simple Blueberry Apple Pie - When I say simple, I mean it. I made this for the holidays and the only change in my home kitchen was I actually made the crust instead of buying it. That's my rule, make it on special occasions, but in a pinch check out the refrigerator section of the grocery store for a little shortcut to the party.

That's it, plus some smile and stories. I hope you enjoy the new episode! There's still time to make brunch for mom after it's over ... I'm heading to my kitchen to make some brunch for myself now. I think it'll be a croissant with jelly and some of the stewed chicken I made yesterday, bacon and a sunny side up egg. Then, maybe some apple cider with mint and strawberries. Trying to get rid of those berries and mint before they die on me! In the meantime, I made a cereal shake last night and didn't feel like making a big serving, but also wanted to make sure I properly measured the ingredients so I can share the recipe with you at a later date ... I give you two pictures I was so happy to take last night before I blitzed up my midnight snack ...
Apple Jacks, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Capn Crunch. Then, if you don't want to use a whole pint, but need to accurately measure half of it ... divide and conquer ...
The other half is in a freezer bag waiting on part two of the shake ... I think I have some Cocoa Puffs that need a new purpose in life ... Take care and enjoy the new show today!!!

Cooking for Real Today, Sunday May 7th (Happy Mother's Day!!!) 11am on Food Network
or tomorrow at 4pm!

And don't forget Cooking for Real also airs week mornings at 1130AM est. Plenty tof times to catch a new trick, idea of use for an ingredient in your kitchen!

Great show today! The Catfish Nuggets looked delicious! And that pie...wow! So cool that you had your parents on! It looks like you all had a wonderful time! I loved how you made your Dad earn his plate :)

Fish and cheesy grits sounds good to me. And yes, I second that - salt (never sugar) for the grits (and plenty of butter) and sugar in the cream of wheat!! But that's just me. :) Hmmm... cereal shake. Interesting! Have a great week!

Loved the new episode! You and your parents are so cute together - you all just ooze love and warmth! :-) Not to mention the fish and grits looked awesome - I'm definitely a savory grits and sweet cream-of-wheat girl, myself, especially if those savory grits have a bunch of cheese in them! I remember that hot sauce from Prune, and how much you loved it - and this catfish sounds like the perfect vehicle for more of the sauce! ;-)

Hi Sweetheart,
I wanted to post something right after viewing the show but our internet is still down from the recent tornados that touched down here. All is well and we're so very thankful for GOD's grace and mercy. We've received so much support from all over the country and we are forever grateful to the National Guard and State Troopers...there is truly something about a man in uniform. :)

I so enjoyed seeing your parents. They seem like people from my own family and I know they are so very proud of their baby girl; so am I.
Keep smiling and doing yo thang. If you can believe me when I say, even greater things await you.

Love you much

...by the way...your shake came out SO much cuter than mine! Next time I make one, I'm thinking of using Froot Loops and Frosted Flakes...so many different combinations to choose from!

That cereal & milkshake sounds like the perfect treat, especially during the humid summer months. Forget lunch -- I want to skip right to dessert!

What a fantastic episode, Sunny! You made me all vaklempt at the end when you got emotional talking about your parents being your "fav pair". It was really from the heart and really sweet!

As far as the grits/cream of wheat controversy, I've always enjoyed sweet AND savory when it comes to both. I think I lean more savory with the cream of wheat, though: Shredded Cheddar and butter please!

Sunny -- Haven't visited in awhile. I pop onto your blog, scroll down, and find a cereal-and-ice-cream milkshake picture. This is why I am a fan. I mean, I do cook from your recipes all the time and watch your show, but cereal-and-ice-cream milkshake...? You rock.

Hi Sunny, I really enjoyed seeing your parents on the show. I've never really eaten catfish (as a "Northerner" we always ate white fish instead), but I think I'm going to try the nuggets and see for myself.

Grits with butter, sugar, and cheese for me please. Cream of Wheat, the same! I love your show and I'm going to keep cooking for real! Keep the yummy recipes coming!
